Austin’s Brian Gaar makes Playboy’s 50 funniest Twitter accounts

Screen Shot 2014-12-30 at 11.33.28 AMLocal standup comic (and American-Statesman reporter) Brian Gaar had a pretty great 2014, comedy-wise. His first album, “Never Gonna Be Famous,” reached No. 2 on the iTunes comedy charts and his Twitter cracks have garnered him national notoriety; Paste Magazine called his Twitter account “a master class.”

The latest accolade comes from Playboy, which knows funny (I only read it for the cartoons and jokes). The magazine named Gaar one of the 50 funniest Twitter accounts of 2014. Playboy writer Matt Shirley placed Gaar at No. 4, ahead of such names as Rob Delaney, Ben Schwartz, Caprice Crane and Kumail Nanjiani.

“Brian is the guy that wouldn’t come out to play as a kid because he was playing through Metroid again to get the special ending. But it turns out that kid grew up to be one of the funniest joke tellers on the internet,” Playboy says.

I guess Gaar’s more than 80,000 Twitter followers can’t be wrong.
